Using a BAT (.bat)File

Using this procedure or .bat file all users on the computer will be affected.

First we need to create .bat file to allow all users to be able to Uninstall Windows Store App. However this is a default setting.

  • Open Notepad and copy and paste the following entries

REG Delete HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer /V NoUninstallFromStart /F

start explorer.exe

  • Next, save the note file with a name Allow Uninstalling Metro Apps with .bat extension in desktop
  • Now, right click and select Run as administrator
  • Upon prompted by UAC, click on Run and Yes

You will see that your screen flashes as explorer gets restarted to apply the registry changes.

  • To Prevent All Users from be able to Uninstall Windows Store Apps, open Notepad again and copy and paste the following entries

REG Add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer /V NoUninstallFromStart /T REG_DWORD /D 00000001 /F

start explorer.exe

  • This time save and name it as Prevent Uninstalling Metro Apps with .bat extension and follow the same process as mentioned above.

Using the Local Group Policy Editor

  • Open Run box and type in gpedit.msc and hit enter. This will open Local Group Policy Editor
  • In the policy editor, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar

prevent user uninstalling apps
