Enable Multitasking on iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 2G on Firmware OS 4.0

Old Apple devices such as iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G does not support multitasking feature because of slower speed of CPU processor and lesser amount of RAM. However, iPhone HD (4G) / iPhone OS 4.0 / iPhone 3GS supports multitasking feature. If you want to enjoy multitasking feature, you need to upgrade your device to firmware OS 4.0 first.

iPhone Dev Team has developed a simple hack to enable multitasking support on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. But do note that this hack does not work with 1st generation iPhone 2G and 1st generation iPod touch 1G.

    • Bapun says:

The setting to change to enable and turn on multitasking feature on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G is “multitasking” directive on the capabilities plist in SpringBoard (SB) app (N82AP.plist), located at (/System/Library/CoreService/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist. N82AP.plist is one of the two main files in System Directory.

It possible without jailbreaking. You either need Ubuntu, or Linux. After installing libimobile device you need to do an update. After doing that your ipod or iphone will appear in the same way as a memory stick.

  12. Abrahamjosey says:

I had this hack, but my iPod did indeed get slower, and some applications crashed. I un jailbroke my iPod and now my battery drains less, and it’s way faster. multitasking was great while it lasted, but I like a fast long lasting iPod.

  13. IneedHelp says:

Where do you go to get to /System/Library/CoreService/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist. N82AP.plist file? I can’t find it please someone give me more precise directions
