Windows 8: Enable/ Disable Switcher Top Left Hot Corner

In the former versions of Windows OS to flip application we used the keyboard shortcut ALT + TAB, But as we all know that Microsoft has brought out many changes in the new Windows 8 OS. It includes a new touch and mouse-based app for improving switching capabilities so that you can work across the system’s Metro- and desktop-based experiences. As we are well aware that Windows 8 provides two different operating interfaces, with Switcher one can easily switch between the two modes. It can be found at the Top Left Hot Corner desktop screen. Here is the tutorial how you can enable or disable the Switcher in Windows 8.

Enable Disable Switcher Top Left Hot Corner

With many newly added feature Switcher is one such feature in Windows 8. It comes handy when you want to switch between apps whether you’re using a mouse, keyboard, or touch. Here is how you can enable or disable the Switcher top left hot corner in only your user account in Windows 8.

Enable or Disable the Switcher in Windows 8

  • To enable Switcher on desktop, firstly you need to create a .bat file. To do so, open Notepad and copy and paste the entries given below

REG Delete “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI” /V DisableTLcorner /F
:: To kill and restart explorer
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

  • Save it with a name Enable Switcher with a .bat extension. This extension is important
  • Next, close the file and click on it to run it.

You will find the Switcher at the top most of corner on your Windows 8 desktop.

  • In order to disable Switcher Top Left Hot Corner in Windows 8, again open Notepad and copy and paste the entries given below

REG ADD “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI” /V DisableTLcorner /T REG_DWORD /D 1 /F
:: To kill and restart explorer
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

  • Save it with a name Disable Switcher with a .bat extension
  • Next, click on it to run it.

If ever prompted by UAC, click on Run. If you don’t like or want to stop receiving the Run prompt by unblocking the downloaded .bat file.

When you see your system screen flicker it indicate that your operation has been carried out and the flicker screen is a result of explorer restart.

Upon disabling Switcher top left hot corner, you will no longer be able to open Switcher from the top left corner.
Upon following the tutorial here you can easily enable or disable the Switcher Top Left Hot Corner in Windows 8.
